How to spot a Beautiful Salon...

When booking a facial, ask exactly what products and techniques will be used.

What will be used for the eye and neck areas - which are often neglected during treatments?

If they use a mask, ask what will happen whilst you wait for it to work? Will your hands and feet or scalp be massaged? A good therapist will offer a massage. A not so good one will leave you on your own!

Always ask how many year's experience your therapist has and what their training involved.

If your facialist has lined up products to recommend to you, do not feel pressured to buy. Have a think about it. If you still want them after you've left the salon you can always return to purchase.

When booking a pedicure or manicure, ask about hygiene. You should accept nothing less than a new emery board, and a foot scraper that has been detatched and sterilised.

Do not allow cuticles to be cut. They are vital to new growth and should only ever be gently pushed back.

When booking a wax, ask whether the wax is recycled. Recycled wax?! Also check whether they use strip waxing (ouch) or Australian wax - which is a gentler type of waxing, especially for delicate areas!

If you are travelling to a Spa, or abroad and want to use the spa facilities at your destination ensure that you book well in advance. Otherwise you may arrive to find that there are no available appointments!
