Skin Care Routine
Healthy looking and feeling skin comes from having a good daily facial skin care routine. Your skin is able to cleanse, heal and even renew itself. How well it achieves these things depends on how well you take care of it. Having a good daily skin care routine is very important to the health of your skin and an essential step towards getting that great complexion you've always wanted!Think about the way you take care of your skin on a day to day basis and ask yourself the following questions:
- Is your skin having frequent outbreaks of spots and/or acne?
- Do you need to review the way you take care of your skin?
- Are you using the wrong skin care products daily?
- Do you need to simplify your facial skin care routine to prevent further frequent outbreaks?
- Do you find yourself regularly forgetting to follow your skincare routine
If “yes”, review your facial skin care routine against the information below.
A good facial skin care routine should be simple to follow. It should not take more than 20 minutes of your time each day. Do it two times a day, once in the morning and another time at night. It should also fit in to your lifestyle... If you are regularly forgetting to follow it, think about why? Are you trying to make your lifestyle fit around your skincare, if so - don't! Change your routine to fit around your normal habits - if you like a shower in the morning, get a cleanser you can use whilst you are in there!

DAILY FACIAL SKINCARE ROUTINE
A good daily facial skin care routine is as easy as 1-2-3!
1. CLEANSE
Regular cleansing is important and when done properly, it serves the following purposes:
- Removes last traces of makeup
- Removes dirt and grime
- Remove excess oil on the surface and skin pores
- Aids the cell renewal process
- opens pores
Always use a cleanser suitable for your skin type - if you have sensetive skin which is easily irritated, get a gentle cleanser, for oily skin get a soap free cleanser full of natural products like witch hazel or tea tree. Cleansers all work and should be used in different ways, so check how you should be using the one for you.
Facial toners improve the skin’s texture when applied to skin after cleansing. They also remove anything that cleansing has brought to the surface of your pores. If you regularly cleanse but don't tone, you may find you are more prone to skin breakouts.
Again, always use the correct toner for your skin type. Generally toners are used by putting a few drops on a cotton pad and lightly sweeping over your face.
3. MOISTURISE
EVERYONE should use a moisturiser! Even if you don't have dry skin, and suprisingly even more so if you have oily skin. If you don't even though your skin isn't dry, it could be looking and feeling tired. If you have oily skin or use a harsh cleanser your skin is often left severly dehydrated.
You should try to use a seperate day/night time moisturiser. Night time ones tend to be balmy and heavier - so you wouldn't want them on your skin during the day - but work wonders overnight. Don't worry if you can't afford seperate creams, just use your normal moisturiser at night - it's important because your skin repairs itself whilst you're sleeping.
Look for a moisturiser suitable for your skin type. Oil based moisturisers have their place (for people with tired or dehydrated skin) but, if your skin is oily - use a water based one. When applying your moisturiser use upward and outward strokes to massage the cream into your skin.
Beauty Tip * You should not use your normal cleanser/toner/moisturiser around the delicate eye area. This can cause premature ageing of the eyes. Instead use a seperate eye gel or moisturising cream specifically designed for this area.
WEEKLY FACIAL SKINCARE ROUTINE
EXFOLIATE
Exfoliate only once a week. Over buffing will over-stimulate and cause irritation to the skin.
Facial scrubs or exfoliators contain fine grains which help to remove dead skin cells. It should be massaged gently into the skin and then rinsed away thoroughly. Your skin will soften with weekly use.
Choose a good facial scrub that is suitable for your skin type.
FACE MASK
Simple clay and mud based cleansing masks are messy but effective for improving the skin condition.
Rich cold creams are good moisturizing masks for sun-exposed or dry skin.
Apply the mask over your skin. Leave the cream on the skin and let the skin absorb as much of the cream as possible. Wipe off the excess with soft tissue.
- Put some of the mask into your hand first.
- Then stroke it over a clean, exfoliated skin, avoiding the eye area.
- Relax for at least 10 minutes.
- Rinse the face mask off thoroughly with tepid or warm water.
FACIALS
Facials are usually done in salons. They can be easily done at home too. Just once a month will make a noticeable difference to your complexion and skin tone.
