Sex and Relationships - How to spice up your love life!

If you'd rather sit down with a tub of icecream than get into bed with your partner, it's time to get things shaking. Try these tiny tweaks from women who've been there before ( you might even end up, uh, working the icecream in somehow), and the experts who write about it...

HAND TRICKS

  • Keep some ice in a bucket by the bed and run a piece along his lips, his neck and his nipples.
  • It can be fun to keep fondling once you start having intercourse. Use your hands and continue to caress him wherever you can.
  • I'm generally quite a gentle person, but to mix things up, I go for my boyfriend with a firmer touch. He responds by being rougher with me, which intensifies sex.
  • I bought a pair of satin gloves to go with a formal, strapless dress and one night, I decided to leave them on to see how my boyfriend liked a silky stroke. He liked!

POSITION TRANSITIONS

  • Have him sit in a rocking chair, then sit facing him and let the motion of the chair get you going.
  • Intercourse doesn't need to have a start to finish trajectory; he can withdraw so you can do other things.
  • I watch porn films by myself to learn new positions. When I view them with my boyfriend, we get turned on really quickly and start having sex, so I don't get much of a chance to study.
  • Not every position is conductive to kissing, but try to kiss in those that are, and kiss when you change positions. Kissing is such an initmate act, yet it can get lost when you're having sex.
  • Work your pillows! Prop him up with them when you're on top so he can kiss your breasts.
  • When I'm on top and not quite 'hitting the spot,' I straighten my legs so it's like missionary style. It's a whole new sensation for me and my partner.

TALK IT UP

  • A little dirty talk goes a long way. You don't have to audition for a phone-sex line, just say a few X-rated words.
  • Ask for feedback from your partner. Say, 'is there a way I can do this to make it feel better?' There's no way to know unless you ask.
  • Instead of moaning 'Baby! Baby!' like I normally do, I called my boyfriend by his name and he reciprocated. It really is incredible to hear the person you love saying your name while you're doing it.
  • Make your voice lower and deeper for whatever you say in bed, I picked that up from doing a love scene in my acting class – but believe me, it works in real life too.

PLAY DRESS-UPS

  • Do it in your clothes. Just pull down your undies and hike up your skirt. The sense of urgency is hot – you're so hungry for each other, you don't even want to bother getting undressed.
  • Go online and type 'adult costumes' into a search engine. You'll find sites with everything from French maid and Little Red Riding Hood attire to police uniforms.
  • My boyfriend is avidly interested in my underwear. A new piece of lingerie in a different colour of fabric makes him go, 'Wow!' every time.

SMALL-SETTING SWITCHES

  • Adjust the temperature on your heater, you'll feel perkier and alive in a chilly room. Or take a tip from the people who do Bikram yoga and make your bedroom a sweatbox.
  • It's fun to do it in the living room. You're not sure when your flatmates are going to walk through the door, so even though you don't want to get caught, the thrill is in thinking that you might.
  • Invest in a better bed. When my boyfriend and I moved in togther, we got a king-size bed. Now we have room for gymnastic action.
  • Make love in the daytime, or with the lights on so you can see each other.
  • I have sexy goodies by the bed – silk scarves, massage oil, etc – so I can liven things up without getting out.
